Beverly Hills, Calif.  Injecting the scalp with Botox is an effective way to encourage new hair growth, according to an aesthetic surgeon who injected his mother’s scalp with Botox to treat severe headaches caused by chemotherapy. Her hair started to grow back after the Botox was administered, Cosmeticsdesign.com reports.

Simon Ourian, M.D., says he has been carrying out comprehensive tests on volunteers at his clinic, which has allowed him to fine tune and develop the hair loss treatment in the last three years. In addition, he combines the Botox formulation with a cocktail of vitamins aimed at improving blood circulation and cell growth in the scalp area, which could be particularly helpful for treating alopecia areata, according to Cosmeticsdesign.com.

The course of injections would be taken two to three times a year to reduce scalp tension and improve the level of nutrients in the tissue surrounding hair follicles to reactivate hair growth. Other hair loss medications, such as Rogaine and Propecia, claim to either stop hair loss only or slow hair loss with modest hair regrowth. Experts say further testing is needed to determine Dr. Ourian’s results.

In order to treat hair loss effectively we would recommend that you have a diagnosis made as soon as possible by one of our experienced Westminster Trichologists. Stress can be an aggravator in almost all cases of hair loss and an accurate diagnosis will always, at the very least, take some of the stress away from you.

Gary Heron says: “You’ll have access to the most effective treatments available through The Hair Centre and at a fraction of the cost of going to other Private Commercial Clinics and Centres.”

When it’s time to see the Trichologist: If you begin losing hair rapidly, and or are cosmetically concerned about baldness, consult your Trichologist about treatment options. You can receive a free hair loss consultation with a Westminster Trichologist at our Hair Centre.

The point is that you are not getting to the real problem and you should seek specific professional advice from a Westminster Trichologist.

I WAS NEARLY A BALD WOMAN. LOOK AT ME NOW. MY HAIR IS BACK.

Androgenetic alopecia in women [ FEMALE HAIR LOSS ] is often linked to hormonal changes with the hair loss following events such as the menopause, childbirth or as a result of stopping or starting oral contraceptive pills.  The hair loss is generally more uniform over the scalp than in the male counterpart, but also results from a complex chemical reaction when the enzyme 5-alpha-reductase converts the testosterone in the system into DHT or dihydrotestosterone.  The hair follicles are genetically predisposed to be over sensitive to the DHT and become smaller and smaller with time, leading to the eventual hair loss.

Boffins can predict hairloss

Scientists claim they can predict when a bloke will go bald

By KATE WIGHTON

SCIENTISTS claim to have devised a way of predicting if and when a bloke will go bald.
Hailed as the first device of its kind, the online baldness calculator computes a man’s risk of losing his hair by asking a series of questions relating to family history, diet and lifestyle.

The device was first launched in Germany, where it received more than half a million hits in its first 10 days online.

An estimated two-thirds of Brit men are affected by male pattern baldness.

There is a strong genetic link, with lads advised to look at their dad and granddads to assess their chance of becoming a baldie. If all are sporting a comb-over, it may be curtains for your flowing locks.

Junk food

The boffins warned that junk food and long-term stress can also trigger hairloss.

Hair scientist Dr Adolf Klenk said: “Convenience foods may lead to a lack of energy support and premature hairloss.”

He explains: “Hereditary hair loss appears to be a large problem. More and more men value full hair. We have developed the male baldness calculator to raise awareness among men. They should deal with the problem as soon as possible.”

PRACTICAL MANAGEMENT OF HAIR LOSS FOR MEN AND WOMEN

01.07.2009 in Uncategorized

Androgenetic Alopecia
Most cases of hair loss are due to androgenetic alopecia. Fifty percent of men by age 50 years and 40% of women by menopause have some degree of Androgenetic Alopecia. Hair loss is gradual, with miniaturization of genetically programmed hair follicles.

Uptake, metabolism, and conversion of testosterone to dihydrotestosterone by 5-alpha-reductase is increased in balding hair follicles. Androgenetic Alopecia appears different in men as compared with women. In men with Androgenetic Alopecia, hair loss occurs in the fronto-temporal regions and on the vertex of the scalp, depending on severity. In female Androgenetic Alopecia patients, it is more diffuse and located centroparietally. The frontal hairline is usually intact in women.

ALOPECIA AREATA – AUTOIMMUNE HAIR LOSS [ GET TREATMENTS AND GET RESULTS ]

26.06.2009 in Uncategorized

What is Alopecia Areata ?

photo-0091

Alopecia areata is a particular form of hair loss that can affect any part of the body in either sex. The hair loss is noticed as a round bald area. There are no other symptoms. The commonest site for alopecia areata is the scalp, but frequently the beard area in men is affected.

More rarely, eyebrows and eyelashes are affected. In some individuals it can spread over the whole body, when it is called alopecia universalis.

Often, only a single area is found, but sometimes multiple areas occur affecting different parts of the scalp or beard area. The bald skin is smooth and soft, and small broken hairs may be seen at the edge of the patch. Any age group can be affected.

How does Alopecia Areata occur ?

Alopecia areata is an “auto-immune” disease. This means a condition in which the body’s defence or immune system acts as if its own hair is abnormal and attacks it. This results in hair loss. Why certain small areas are involved is not known. It is occasionally found with other auto-immune diseases affecting the blood, thyroid gland and adrenal glands, and skin pigment cells.

Why does Alopecia Areata occur ?

Alopecia areata may affect several members of your family, because the tendency to it is partly inherited. In some people, emotional stress or injury to the involved area may trigger the problem.

Treatment Involved for Alopecia Areata

In mild cases where only one patch is present treatment may be unnecessary, as the patch may recover spontaneously. Alopecia areata can be treated by the use of  The Hair Centre’s trichologically formulated treatments and lotions which reduce the immune response. It is best to treat the condition immediately it is diagnosed by your Westminster Trichologist.

The Hair Centre’s trichologically formulated treatments and lotions must be strong preparations and a topical lotion is best as it is easiest to use in hairy areas. Your treatment may need to be continued for many months.
