TIPS FOR HEALTHY HAIR

14.09.2023 in HAIR LOSS PRODUCTS AND TREATMENTS

How you wash your hair and the products you use can go a long way in maintaining smooth, shiny hair. Follow these simple tips from our Trichologist to maintain healthy hair.

How you wash your hair and the products you use can go a long way toward maintaining smooth, shiny hair. Follow these simple tips from our Trichologist to maintain healthy hair.

  1. Wash oily hair more frequently. How often you wash your hair should be based on how much oil your scalp produces.
    • If your scalp is oily, you may need to wash it as often as once a day.
    • If you have chemically treated hair, your hair may be drier, so you may want to wash it less frequently.
    • As you get older, your scalp makes less oil, so you may not need to shampoo as often. But if you see flakes in your hair, you may not be shampooing enough. This can lead to dandruff and other scalp diseases.
  2. Concentrate shampoo on the scalp. When washing your hair, concentrate on cleaning primarily the scalp, rather than washing the entire length of hair. Washing only your hair can create flyaway hair that is dull and coarse.
  3. Use conditioner after every shampoo unless you use a “2-in-1” shampoo, which cleans and conditions hair. Using a conditioner can significantly improve the look of damaged or weathered hair by increasing shine, decreasing static electricity, improving strength and offering some protection from harmful UV rays.
  4. Concentrate conditioner on the tips of the hair. Because conditioners can make fine hair look limp, they only should be used on the tips of the hair and not on the scalp or length of the hair.
  5. Choose a shampoo and conditioner formulated specifically for your hair type. For example, if you color your hair, use a shampoo designed for color-treated hair. If your hair is damaged or chemically treated, consider a “2-in-1” shampoo. Regardless of cost, many shampoo and conditioner brands provide the same benefits.
  6. Protect hair when swimming. Protect your hair from the damaging effects of chlorine by wetting and conditioning your hair before swimming. Wear a tight-fitting swim cap and use a specially formulated swimmers shampoo and deep conditioner after swimming to replace lost moisture.

If you have questions about caring for your hair, you should make an appointment to see our Trichologist.

Does Diet Affect Hair Loss? Here Are Some Answers.

30.08.2023 in HAIR LOSS SCIENCE

A lack of the right nutrients, including vitamins A, C, D, and E, zinc, B vitamins, iron, biotin, protein, and essential fatty acids, may slow down hair growth or even cause hair loss. Fortunately, correcting a deficiency in any of these nutrients may help treat hair loss and promote the rate of hair growth.

Will hair loss due to diet grow back?

Rapid weight loss, such as more than 15 pounds in a short period, can lead to a temporary hormone imbalance. Since hormones help regulate hair growth, this weight loss may result in temporary hair loss. Usually, once the body adjusts, hair growth resumes on its own.

What is your diet lacking if your hair is falling out?

A deficiency in one or more micronutrients may lead to hair loss. If you’re experiencing hair loss, you may want to be tested for deficiencies in iron, vitamin D, zinc, B vitamins, and copper.

Can diet stop hair thinning?

While researchers note that more studies are needed , eating a diet rich in protein may help prevent hair loss. Healthy choices include foods like: eggs. nuts.

Can a 1200 calorie diet cause hair loss?

Anytime a person consumes less than 1300 calories per day the chances of telogen effluvium increase. Telogen effluvium (TE) Is a hair shedding disorder whereby the patient experiences more daily hair loss than they may have in the past

Can vitamin D cause hair loss?

Vitamin D deficiency has become a common problem these days. Many people suffer from vitamin D deficiency due to lack of exposure to sunlight or poor intake of foods rich in vitamin D. This can lead to hair loss and other health issues

Does caffeine cause hair loss?

If you’re a coffee drinker, you’ve probably wondered whether caffeine causes hair loss. In the past, it was believed that caffeine could accelerate hair loss. However, recent studies suggest that there’s no link between caffeine and hair loss.

Is B12 deficiency hair loss reversible?

Your hair will grow back as soon as you treat the deficiency. On restoration of vitamin B12 in your body, your hair cells will replicate adequately and support your hair follicles to grow healthy hair. It just takes a few months of following a systematic diet plan to reverse vitamin B12 deficiency hair loss.
