MALE HAIR LOSS: RESULTS

20.08.2008 in HAIR LOSS [ PHOTOS ] TREATED, MALE HAIR LOSS

This Patient came to us in early September 2007. He was suffering from severe Male Pattern Hair Loss (MPB).

SEPTEMBER 2007 (BEFORE)

FEBRUARY 2008 (AFTER)

We prescribed the following treatments:

Minoxidil 5% + Medroxy Progesterone Hair Growth Stimulant: Minoxidil is a vasodilator and dilates the blood capillaries responsible for blood supply to the hair follicles, thus allowing more blood to reach the hair follicles and encourage hair growth.  Medroxy Progesterone is a synthetic hormone designed to block the conversion of testosterone to DHT or Dihydro-Testosterone.

Follicle Builder 15% Hair Strengthener:
This stimulant is formulated to increase cell metabolism and nutrient concentration at the hair root to increase hair cell production.  It also has the effect of extending the hair growth cycle, improving overall hair density.

TRICHO-PEPTIDE ANTI-HAIR LOSS TREATMENT

19.08.2008 in HAIR LOSS PRODUCTS AND TREATMENTS

OVERVIEW
A topical anti-hair loss treatment of modified marine origin, demonstrated to be highly effective in the prevention and production of premature hair loss.

APPLICATION
Apply daily to the scalp with gentle massage.

TRICHO-PEPTIDE
Tricho-peptide contains a new molecule CLA Glutathione combined with sodium DNA, with very high biologic activity.  At the scalp level the potent anti free radical activity of the tricho-peptide counteracts the degeneration of the connective tissue around the hair bulbs in cases of androgenetic alopecia.  Tricho-peptide is a powerful anti oxidant and free radical inhibitor that enhances cell repair and regeneration, which tests showed could act as a regulator of the hair loss process.

TEST DATA
Tests on anagen hair follicles treated with tricho-peptide for three months showed a 40.00% improvement on anti hair loss activity compared with a control group treated with Minoxydil over the same period where the improvement was less at 17.60%

SUMMARY
Tricho-peptide is a potent anti oxidant and free radical inhibitor which can act as a regulator of the bio chemical hair loss process.

PROPECIA (finasteride) 1 mg: Possible Side Effects

18.08.2008 in Uncategorized

Possible Side Effects

PROPECIA was developed to treat mild to moderate male pattern hair loss on the vertex (top of head) and anterior mid-scalp area (middle front of head) in MEN ONLY. There is not sufficient evidence that PROPECIA works for receding hairlines at the temples.

PROPECIA is for the treatment of male pattern hair loss in MEN ONLY and should NOT be used by women or children.

You should not use PROPECIA if you are allergic to finasteride or any of the ingredients in PROPECIA.

Women who are or may potentially be pregnant must not use PROPECIA and should not handle crushed or broken PROPECIA tablets because the active ingredient may cause abnormalities of a male baby’s sex organs. If a woman who is pregnant comes into contact with the active ingredient in PROPECIA, a doctor should be consulted. PROPECIA tablets are coated and will prevent contact with the active ingredient during normal handling, provided that the tablets are not broken or crushed.

Clinical studies showed that side effects were uncommon and did not affect most men.
In general use, the following side effects have been reported: allergic reactions including rash, itching, hives, and swelling of the lips and face; problems with ejaculation; breast tenderness and enlargement; and testicular pain. You should promptly report to your doctor any changes in your breasts such as lumps, pain, or nipple discharge. Tell your doctor about these or any other unusual side effects.

A small number of men had sexual side effects, with each occurring in less than 2% of men. These include less desire for sex, difficulty in achieving an erection, and a decrease in the amount of semen. These side effects went away in men who stopped taking PROPECIA because of them. In addition, these side effects decreased to 0.3% of men or less by the fifth year of treatment.

In 3 controlled clinical trials for PROPECIA of 12-month duration, 1.4% of patients who took PROPECIA (n=945) were discontinued due to adverse experiences that were considered to be possibly, probably, or definitely drug related. 1.6% of patients who took a sugar pill (placebo; n=934) were discontinued due to adverse experiences.

PROPECIA can affect a blood test called PSA (prostate-specific antigen) for the screening of prostate cancer. If you have a PSA test done, tell your doctor that you are taking PROPECIA.

Important Information About PROPECIA

You may need to take PROPECIA daily for 3 months or more before you see a benefit from taking PROPECIA. If PROPECIA has not worked for you within 12 months, further treatment is unlikely to be of benefit.

PROPECIA can only work over the long term if you continue taking it. If you stop taking PROPECIA, you will likely lose any hair you have gained within 12 months of stopping treatment.

Although results will vary, generally you will not be able to grow back all the hair you have lost.

Know the facts. PROPECIA is available by prescription only, so the best thing to do is talk with your doctor.

FEMALE HAIR LOSS: (TRACTION ALOPECIA AND CHEMICAL TRAUMA) RESULTS

18.08.2008 in ALOPECIA AREATA, HAIR LOSS [ PHOTOS ] TREATED

This Patient started treatment with us in September 2006. She has been suffering from Severe Traction Alopecia and Chemical Trauma.  As you can see as she reaches the end of her treatment she has responded superbly to our treatment recommendations.

Traction alopecia is hair loss caused by constant tension of braids and extensions on the hair, such as that created by an over-tight ponytail, plaiting or through using too tight rollers to style the hair.  The action of pulling on the hair over a long period of time results in the gradual shrinking of the hair follicle and so the hairs produced become finer and finer and permanently damaged if not treated.

Chemical trauma can be caused to the hair by bleaching, relaxing, perming or even dying the hair.  The chemicals involved in these processes can damage the protein structure of the hair, making it brittle and often causing hair loss.  As well as damaging the hair, these chemicals are also not good for the scalp and can irritate it.

We prescribed the following treatments:

Psoriaderm  Scalp Treatment
This lotion contains powerful keratolytic (scale-removing) agents to soften and remove compacted scaling and sebum from the hair and scalp.  Anti-pruritic agents reduce the irritation and erythema (redness), while antiseptic agents prevent secondary infection.  This lotion also contains additional cooling and emollient properties.

Vitastim 15% Hair Regrowth Stimulant and Hair Loss Stabiliser:
This stimulant is recommended to help stabilise hair loss and strengthen existing hair.  It is a natural hop-based solution that works as a vasodilator to increase blood circulation in the scalp and so enable healthy hair growth.  It also contains a multi-vitamin complex to help catalyse the process of conversion of amino acids into keratin hair cells and accelerate growth and diameter of the hair from the dermal papilla.
