What Is Acne Vulgaris? Do I Have It?
02.10.2007 in UncategorizedAnswer: Acne vulgaris is distinguished by red, elevated areas on the skin that can grow into pustules, which may be slightly painful and are often pruritic or itchy. Without treatment these pustules may develop further into cysts that can cause scarring and destroy the hair follicle. Although commonest in adolescents, acne may appear for the first time in the mid-twenties or even later and persists in a significant number of people into their 40s or even 50s. It is caused by an abnormal response in the skin to normal levels of the male hormone, testosterone, in the blood.
