FEMALE HAIR LOSS: (CASE STUDY) RESULTS

02.10.2008 in FEMALE HAIR LOSS, HAIR LOSS [ PHOTOS ] TREATED

Carole had been suffering from Psoriasis and Androgenetic Alopecia since August 2001. Carole started treatments with us in May 2007 and followed our recommendations. Here are her results.

Psoriasis is characterised by the presence of red, raised patches covered by silvery-white scales, which is caused by an abnormally fast cell division rate in the epidermis layer of the skin and is a genetically determined disorder.  This condition often leads to increased shedding of hairs in the telogen (resting) phase of the hair cycle and some reduction in hair density.

Androgenetic alopecia in women is often linked to hormonal changes with the hair loss following events such as the menopause, childbirth, or as a result of stopping or starting oral contraceptive pills.  The hair loss is generally more uniform over the scalp than in the male counterpart, but also results from a complex chemical reaction when the enzyme 5-alpha-reductase converts the testosterone in the system into DHT or dihydrotestosterone.  The hair follicles are genetically predisposed to be over sensitive to the DHT and become smaller and smaller with time, leading to the eventual hair loss.

Carole is using the prescribed treatments listed below:

Vitastim Hair Regrowth Stimulant and Hair Loss Stabiliser
This stimulant is recommended to help stabilise hair loss and strengthen existing hair.  It is a natural hop-based solution that works as a vasodilator to increase blood circulation in the scalp and so enable healthy hair growth.  It also contains a multi-vitamin complex to help catalyse the process of conversion of amino acids into keratin hair cells and accelerate growth and diameter of the hair from the dermal papilla.

Biostim 15% Hair Regrowth Stimulant and Hair Loss Stabiliser
This stimulant contains a very effective, natural 5-alpha reductase inhibitor.  It reduces the amount of 5-alpha reductase in the scalp and thereby reduces the formation of DHT, stabilising hair loss and encouraging a healthy growth cycle.

Psoriaderm  Scalp Treatment
This lotion contains powerful keratolytic (scale-removing) agents to soften and remove compacted scaling and sebum from the hair and scalp.  Anti-pruritic agents reduce the irritation and erythema (redness), while antiseptic agents prevent secondary infection.  This lotion also contains additional cooling and emollient properties.

No.2 Cream
This scalp cream is formulated to loosen scale and flaking and to allow it to be removed by washing.  It also works to slow down the formation of skin cells that cause scale to form on the surface of the scalp.  The main active ingredients of this cream are salicylic acid and cade oil, which have excellent antiseptic and antimitotic properties.  It also contains modern antiseptics and fungicides that are highly effective but, unlike many other modern chemicals, will not aggravate the skin tissues, which can lead to further scale forming within a short time of it having been cleared.

No.3 Shampoo
This luxurious shampoo is a rich blend of evening primrose, honey, and wheat protein, combined to clean hair thoroughly and gently, removing the excess oil from the scalp without stripping it of the important oil within the scalp tissues.  This ensures that the scalp is clean, healthy and in perfect balance, and that the hair is in excellent condition.

No.6 Conditioner
This is a light conditioner containing evening primrose oil, jojoba oil and glycerine to aid the spread of natural oils over the surface of the hair and leave it feeling softer and more manageable.

Androgenetic alopecia has a characteristic pattern of hair loss; it begins with a slight recession at the front hairline and is followed by thinning on the crown of the head.  This hair loss results from a complex chemical reaction when the enzyme 5-alpha-reductase converts the testosterone in the system into DHT or dihydrotestosterone.  The hair follicles are genetically predisposed to be oversensitive to the DHT and become smaller and smaller with time, leading to the eventual hair loss.

Follicle Builder 15% Hair Strengthener
This stimulant is formulated to increase cell metabolism and nutrient concentration at the hair root to increase hair cell production.  It also has the effect of extending the hair growth cycle, improving overall hair density.

The survey, for the charity Tommy’s and Johnson’s Baby, also found that 45% of women had received conflicting advice about pregnancy.

Four in 10 (40%) were confused about what foods were safe to eat, 29% were unsure if they could dye their hair, 31% did not know which prescription drugs were safe to take and 22% were unaware of safe exercises.

A total of 15% were confused by how much alcohol, if any, they could drink while pregnant, 15% did not know if it was safe to fly.

One in 20 women (5%) did not understand why they needed to take folic acid in the first 12 weeks.
