Hair loss can leave people feeling vulnerable. This can make them easy targets for salesmen who make false claims about expensive treatments.

It’s important to be wary of the many private clinics that advertise their celebrity-endorsed wonder cures on the back pages of newspapers.

“Hair is so significant because of what it is and where it is. Hair is part of us, much more intimate than things like clothes. When it goes, you lose a part of yourself.”

Depending on the type of hair loss (medically known as alopecia), your GP can refer you to a specialist, generally a trichologist, who will provide you with an accurate diagnosis.
